Joy Dean Joyce Hamm, 83, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem surrounded by family. She went peacefully into her Heavenly home after a 5-year struggle with her health. A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Sands officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery and the family will greet friends following at the graveside. She graduated from Pine Hall High School in 1956, where she was a cheerleader, class secretary, and was voted “best personality” and “most popular”. She never met a stranger and loved everyone. Joy worked for 30 years in textiles, first at Burlington Industries, then Unifi. She was a faithful member of New Vision Fellowship until her health declined and was a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. At Oak Grove, she worked in the nursery for 25 years, was heavily involved in Vacation Bible School, and had many years of perfect attendance in Sunday School. She was known in the family as their #1 prayer warrior. Family was her whole world. She loved to shop, eat out, and sing with her sisters. One of the joys of her life was being “Mema” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie McGee Hamm; her brother, Leroy Joyce; and her sister, Betty Throckmorton. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeffery Hamm of Madison and Donna Evans and husband Keith of Madison; her sisters, Christine Grubbs of Winston-Salem, Madeline Nickelston of Eden, and Josephine Heath of Madison; three grandchildren, Tiffany Montgomery (Miles), Chelsea Noah (Josh), and Taylor Evans (Hunter); two great-grandchildren, Palmer Montgomery and Shepard Noah; and several special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ray Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Joy Hamm and all are invited to share memories or offer condolences at www.rayfuneralhome.com.
